One title dominates the landscape this week as the self-descriptive Ghostbusters: The Video Game comes out worldwide. Thanks to some confusing corporate affairs the UK and Europe will only get the PS3 & PS2 versions, with the Wii, Xbox360, PC & DS versions appearing on 30th October. However, the US will see all versions released today.
It’s safe to say that anyone who even remotely liked the films will have an interest in seeing how well the game has been put together. What has me excited is the large majority of the voice talent from the films included in the game. With a script that’s at least been looked at by Dan Akroyd & Harold Ramis I have hopes that this will be an appropriate tribute to the Ghostbusters franchise.
The game is rated Teen for the 360 & PS3 but the Wii version differs not only with its rating but with a completely unique art style. Looking more like the animated series – The Real Ghostbusters – this Wii version looks to be its own experience separate from the other consoles. With motion controls and a distinctive look it certainly the more appealing version to me.
The other major release in the Ghostbusters shadow is Guitar Hero Smash Hits. This is a compilation version of the popular rhythm-action game which has 48 songs taken from the entire Guitar Hero franchise. Although many people have one or two versions of the game this is a perfect entry level game to newcomers, covering the most popular tracks from the whole series.
